Description
Joint sharing and potential control of traffic signals, detectors, cameras, ramp meters, and dynamic message signs is already occurring between WSDOT, local cities and counties. Although information sharing is frequently implemented with little formality, agreements that detail the limits of authority, operational discretion, and liability are required before "joint control" can be implemented. The Spokane Traffic Management Center, where WSDOT and local agencies work together to operate ITS devices in the region, is a successful example of an implemented agreement for Regional Traffic Control.
