Vancouver, Washington -- A 15-member citizens committee met on October 7, 1999 at Truman Elementary School in Vancouver to discuss their role in the I-205 Corridor Study currently being conducted by the Regional Transportation Council and the Washington State Department of Transportation. The study will result in a recommended course of action to resolve traffic issues on I-205 between the Glenn Jackson Bridge north to 83rd Street. The Committee is made up of representatives from seven neighborhood associations, four business associations/groups, schools, police, fire, hospital, and regional interest groups.
"The role of the citizens committee is to provide input from the community perspective on issues, solutions, and priorities for the study area", emphasized Brian McMullen, Project Manager with Washington State Department of Transportation. "We are pleased that the committee consists of people who are very involved in transportation issues in the community."
The committee will be discussing traffic data reflecting "existing conditions" and begin the development of evaluation criteria at their next meeting scheduled for November 18, 1999 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Executive Suites in the East Ridge Business Park, 11807 NE 99th Street. There will be a public comment time during the last fifteen minutes of the committee meeting for interested members of the public to address the committee.
Future committee meetings will be held in February 2000 with a community workshop planned for March 2000 to begin to discuss alternatives.
