Vancouver, Washington -- During the week of September 23, telephone surveyors are calling randomly selected households in Skamania County to learn more about travel patterns, unmet travel needs and support for public transportation services for Skamania County.

This survey is part of a study, funded by the Washington State Department of Transportation, being undertaken by the Southwest Washington Regional Planning commission (RTC) and the Skamania County Transportation Policy Committee. It will look at transportation needs and assess the feasibility of public transportation options in Skamania County. The telephone survey is just one method this study will use to gain an understanding of county transportation needs. The project also will hold several open houses, two panel discussions with invited speakers who have had successes establishing transportation programs and interviews with key stakeholders such as senior citizen groups, school officials and local employers and commuters.

The study will develop several proposed transportation scenarios that it will present to city and county elected officials in March 2003
