Transportation Alternatives Projects
2015 Proposals
RTC sought input from the public on projects considered for funding through the federal Transportation Alternatives Program within Clark, Skamania, and Klickitat counties. The public comment and review period was invited April 22 through May 29, 2015. Eligible projects included bicycle and pedestrian facilities, safe routes for non-drivers, rails-to-trails, scenic viewpoints, community improvements, and environmental mitigation.
The following list includes projects submitted to RTC for consideration, arranged alphabetically by jurisdiction. Those selected also include the dollar amount awarded.
Applications
- Clark County Highway 99 Pedestrian/Bicycle Improvements $250,000
- Clark County proposed to reconstruct approximately 0.75 mile narrow, substandard sidewalk along the west side of Highway 99 between NE 63rd and 78th Streets. The project includes HAWK signal crossing of Highway 99 and bicycle lane buffer.
- Clark County/Ridgefield Main Avenue Access Improvements $148,000
- Western Federal Lands Highway Division proposed to construct approximately 0.5 mile of multi-use pathway along Main Street from Ridgefield (370 feet south of City limits) to the northern end of the Carty Unit (approximately NW 291st Street).
- Klickitat County Fairgrounds Road Sidewalk
- Klickitat County proposed to construct the first phase of 0.26 mile of sidewalk along Fairgrounds Road in Goldendale area. The project includes traffic calming and streetscape.
- La Center East 4th Street at Stonecreek Drive LED Pedestrian Signs $47,000
- The City of La Center proposed to provide a safer crosswalk by installing warning signals to allow pedestrians and bicyclists to safely cross 4th Street at Stonecreek Drive.
- Port of Vancouver Port Connector Bike/Pedestrian Path Segment 2 $500,000
- The Port of Vancouver proposed to construct a 0.5 mile bicycle and pedestrian shared use path along the south side of State Route 501 from the Port Office to Gateway Avenue.
- Vancouver Columbia River Renaissance Trail Extension & Grant Street Overlook $600,000
- The City of Vancouver proposed to extend the Renaissance Trail for approximately 0.5 mile through the Columbia Waterfront Park. The trail will widen to form the Grant Street overlook plaza and viewpoint.
- Washougal’s Columbia River Trail
- The City of Washougal proposed to construct a 0.63 mile shared-use trail along South A Street from the Port of Camas-Washougal trail to Steamboat Landing Park.
Selection Ranking
On July 7, 2015, the RTC Board of Directors selected 5 projects to receive approximately $1.5 million in regionally allocated federal TAP funds. These projects will be programmed in years 2017 and 2018.
